The Bed You Make, Chapter 4c
“Is something wrong?” Dara asked softly. She glanced down at the plush red cashmere sweater, butter-soft tan Prada leather pants and matching red boots she wore. “I thought that since we were going to see Eddie Maine…”
Stefan shook his head. “You look most attractive,” he remarked honestly. A rueful smile danced about his lips. “I am, at the moment, a bit thrown,” he admitted. “Once again you have managed to upend my assumptions where you are concerned.”
His admission shocked both Dara and Nikolas. Or, rather, it was the fact that Stefan had chosen to make such an admission aloud that left them openmouthed.
No one was more surprised than Stefan himself, Dara thought.
The moment was broken with the arrival of the Cassadine limousine. The big car idled to a stop in front of them and the driver hopped out and hastened to open the back door for his passengers. Instead, Stefan directed the man to take their coats and lay them on the front seat. It was an almost balmy night, but Port Charles weather was known to be fickle.
Stefan slipped into the back seat and extended his hand to Dara. She accepted his assistance into the big car. She was a bit surprised when Nikolas slid into place beside her. Even with the limousine's width, all three of them on the back seat made for a cozy fit.
By the time the driver pulled up before the entrance of Mac Scorpio's Outback Restaurant fifteen minutes later, Dara was privately grateful for the bolstering comfort of the two men beside her.
“I have asked Alexis to join us,” Nikolas announced into the silence.
Dara felt Stefan's body tense. It was fleeting, but she felt it. “Very well,” Stefan replied calmly.
The trio alit from the car. Almost immediately Dara felt Stefan's hand against the small of her back. It was an intimate gesture that anyone watching closely was sure to note. Dara took a deep breath and gave the two new men in her life what she hoped was a confident smile. “Shall we?”
