Strange Bedfellows
~ ch. 18, continued ~

 

“…nor I intend to break.”

Stefan crossed the room to Dara’s side. “I see that the news of our marriage has been shared.”

“Indeed,” Aristide drawled.  “And a very convenient marriage it seems to be.”

Stefan’s green eyes went cold.  He pinned his older cousin in place with a piercing glare.  Never, for one moment, forget your station in this family.”  Stefan’s tone was glacial.  “Nor, if you are wise, should you forget my wife’s.”

Judge Cho watched the scenario with interest.  He was loath to intervene in the family drama being played out before him.  It was, perhaps, the truest glimpse of the Cassadine family dynamic that he had seen since first being assigned to the case.

The tension-filled silence threatened to go on indefinitely.  Judge Cho was forced to speak.  “And you, Mrs. Cassadine?”

The magistrate noted with interest that both Dara and Helena Cassadine turned his way.  “I am sorry,” he clarified.  “I meant Helena Cassadine…  How do you feel about your son’s seemingly impromptu marriage?”

“Stefan’s personal … arrangements,” Helena said delicately, “are of no concern to me.”

Though the Cassadine matriarch’s words said one thing, the wording of her statement said another.  No one seated within that study misunderstood Helena’s politely veiled assertion that the marriage between Dara and Stefan was anything more than an attempt to circumvent the judge’s ruling.

“Very well, then,” Judge Cho nodded.  “Let it be noted that you have chosen not to avail yourself of this opportunity to voice an objection to the marriage between your son and Miss Jensen.  Therefore, with the stipulations of the codicil fulfilled, I rule in favor of Dara Jensen Cassadine as Trustee of the Cassadine estates.”
