Strange Bedfellows
~ch. 5, continued ~


Despite her anger, Dara could not help but marvel at the grandeur of Wyndemere. The launch traveled smoothly toward the huge dwelling, giving the awestruck young attorney her first close-up view.

Still marveling, Dara was led up to the house. All around her workers moved efficiently and quietly. It all seemed appropriate for a man like Stefan Cassadine.

“Miss Jensen, welcome to Wyndemere,” Stefan said, extending a hand to her.

Dara’s wonder at the gothic-looking structure had temporarily displaced her anger. Stefan Cassadine’s blithe greeting brought it back full force. “First you steal my car, then you clear out my apartment! What the hell were you thinking?!”

Calmly Stefan took his outstretched hand, cupped Dara’s elbow and led her into the nearby library. His action reminded the angry woman of the presence of watchful servants.

“I am sorry,” she said, firmly removing her arm from his touch.

“Accepted. You realize now that my actions-”

“What I am sorry for is making our discussion so public,” she hissed. “You don’t honestly believe that your overbearing tactics were acceptable in any context?”

Stefan was non-apologetic. “You knew that your life would no longer be your own once our arrangement commenced.”

With a raised brow Dara fell easily into her courtroom persona. “Let us ignore for the moment the fact that taking possession of my car and my life go far beyond anything we might have agreed upon.” She did not wait for his response. “May I point out to you that our agreement does not commence for another year?”

“Circumstances have dictated a change in the timetable,” Stefan informed her gravely.

“A change? For when?”

“Two days from now.”
