Strange Bedfellows
~ ch. 6, continued ~


Dara accepted the cellular phone that Stefan Cassadine extended her way. He had just made the suggestion that she contact Detective Alex Garcia. “Is something going on?” Dara asked.

“The level of concern regarding your resignation and subsequent inaccessibility has risen to a degree requiring action by those involved.”

Automatically her mind translated Stefan’s extremely formal mode of speech. “The police are about to issue an A.P.B. on me?”

Stefan’s brow arched. “I believe that is what I just said.”

Dara sighed from the sheer disbelief of the entire situation. “And I thought this could not get any worse.”

“I shall leave you to your call,” Stefan said. “Remember that I am but directly across the hall should you require my presence during the night.”

You certainly don’t have to worry about that happening,’ Dara mused. Aloud she said, “It is a generous offer, but I am sure it will be unnecessary. Thank you.”

Dara watched Stefan give a curt nod before heading for the door. “Stefan!” she called out, halting his progress.

“Yes?”

“Who was responsible for arranging all my things?”

“My housekeeper, Mrs. Landsbury,” Stefan replied. “Does something not meet with your approval?”

“No!” Dara hastened to reassure him. “I was just curious.”

Stefan turned and left the room. A faint smile touched the corners of his mouth as he wondered whether Dara would have been so visibly relieved had she known that while Mrs. Landsbury had indeed arranged her belongings, Stefan himself had overseen each item.
